Result: Mold 27 - 7 Oswestry
A damp Flinshire morning gave way to one of the finest performances of Mold under 15s where front footed, inspiring game play was at its best.
An early Mold try following backs and forward interplay resulted in Cai scoring in the corner. Exploiting some outstanding interaction between forwards and backs became the norm with all tries coming from exploited open play.
A score from Oswestry came soon after and threatened to offset the confidence with which the team had started the half. Game changing jackling from the forwards ensured momentum was regained quickly and resulted in a second try before half time.
Mold continued their approach in the second half with the forwards creating forward momentum and a solid platform from which the backs ruthlessly exploited an Oswestry defence that decided to hang back in the face of overwhelming Mold attacking play.
Three more tries came to Mold including around 10 phases of passing in contact to release Charlie Hopper over in the corner: Truely the stuff of coaches dreams. With set pieces being consistently won, including 5 scrums stolen from Oswestry, the game was sewn up. Even two yellow cards against our front row failed to turn what was now an overwhelming tide of red and black.
In every way a team performance, the boys must be proud of the effort and skill on display and must take great confidence in soundly dispatching a team who had the better of them for the previous two years.
